Frequently Asked Questions
A list of some frequently asked questions relating to photo enlargements, canvas prints and our products and services (in no particular order).
What are the advantages of buying photo enlargements or canvas prints from Giantprint?

Which paper should I choose for my photo enlargement?
To a large degree, this is a subjective decision. However, what we do tell clients is that you need to consider where the print will be placed. If, for example, your print will be placed in an area that is exposed to a lot of direct light, we always recommend that they choose a paper with a lower gloss level, such as a semi-gloss, matte or fine art paper. The aim is to minimise the distracting reflections originating from light sources.
How do I determine the megapixel size/resolution of my photo?
This depends on the operating system that you are using. On an Apple Macintosh, you generally need to click on the photo first. Then, from the "File" menu, click on "Information". On a Windows-based PC, you typically place your mouse cursor over the photo, then right-click. From the menu that appears, click on "Properties", then click on the "Summary" tab up at the top. Note that you may then need to click on the "Advanced" button to view the required information. Also note that the all of the above procedures may vary from version-to-version, so if you require any assistance please do not hesitate to contact our friendly staff.
Can you provide some advice on where to mount the print?
Sure. The first thing to do is to ensure that the print is never exposed to direct sunlight. Direct sunlight has high levels of ultraviolet light, which causes a print to fade over time. If possible, try also mounting your print away from direct indoor lighting. Indoor lighting contains some levels of ultraviolet light. Also, avoid mounting a print in any room with a laser printer in it. Laser printers produce ozone gas, which also causes print fade over time.
I am really not sure of what to do with my photo. Can I speak to someone for advice?
Absolutely! We always encourage visitors to contact our friendly staff to discuss the requirements for their photo or their project.
Can I collect my order directly from your office?
We do not have a shopfront, therefore direct pickups from our office can only be arranged by strict appointment.
I really need my print quickly. Can you despatch it as soon as it is printed?
Unfortunately, we cannot do this. We have quality control standards that we strictly adhere to. All prints need time to cure properly, to avoid such issues as print ghosting, and to reduce the chance of foreign objects or dust particles adhering to the print during transit. All our prints are cured for a minimum of 48 hours before being despatched.
Do you print ‘general’ posters for shops, such as sale signs and other banners?
We are indeed capable of printing these. However, such prints are usually classed as short-term posters, which is not what we produce. We specialize in archivally-prepared, high-resolution photo enlargements and canvas prints that are designed to last for years.
If I use the Elegant Poster Hanger to mount my print, can I then remove it at a later stage and frame it in the ‘traditional’ way?
Absolutely. This is one of the great advantages of the Elegant Poster Hanger™. It is a non-permanent poster hanging system. For more information, please click [here].
Which file formats do you accept?
We accept JPEG, TIF, PSD, BMP and PNG files. We also welcome RAW files that are in the Adobe DNG format, however, please check with us to ensure that your particular camera is supported before submitting a file. If you are an "advanced" user and wish to submit your file so that it is ready for final output, please click [here].
